Welcome from Alex Sherman, Chief Executive

Hello and welcome and thank-you for wanting to find out more about Bath Preservation Trust (BPT), what we do and what we are looking for in our Chief Operating Officer.

BPT is an architectural and cultural heritage charity. We campaign for and promote the conservation, sustainable enhancement and celebration of the unique historic built environment and the amenity, green setting and global contributions of the City of Bath as a double-inscribed World Heritage Site. We use our collections and our museums to shine a light on our history so we can illuminate our future. At our heart are the principles of equity, informed advocacy, social responsibility and growth through learning and creativity.

We are very fortunate to do this from some of the most beautiful Georgian buildings in the country, working with amazing trustees and an inspiring, insightful and motivated team of people. We work with a diverse network of partners throughout the city and beyond to explore multiple historic narratives with contemporary relevance.

We are in a period of change and opportunity as we look to grow our reach in Bath, and the presence and visitor experience provided by our award-winning museums. No. 1 Royal Crescent and Beckford’s Tower and Museum have both been fully restored and reimagined in recent years. The Herschel Museum of Astronomy and the Museum of Bath Architecture will each have significant investment in the next few years, to ensure they realise their potential as creative, compelling and unique museums and versatile spaces.

We are looking for a Chief Operating Officer to join our team, to help us realise this ambition and opportunity. The right candidate will need to be an active and inclusive communicator and collaborator, a people person with great experience and someone who enjoys learning from their team as much as leading them.
